Mississauga miWay Transit Site

Welcome to the Mississauga miWay Transit Fleet page

You can go to WIKI to get more detail information on the bus fleet as to various items.

From 1978 to 2002, all be buses came from Orion excepted as noted.

The system came into existent in 1974 with a mixture of new and old buses by different manufacture, transit systems as well the fore runner Charterways, that was servicing the area at the time.

Since Orion was Mississauga based, MT became the first system to obtain and test The New Orion VII design in 2000 that was 12 month late from the production line in 2002.

It's a good thing MT only order 14 of them as they were a nightmare and lead to a law suite by the city over them.

It took close to 6 months to get the problems fix before they could be put into service in early 2003. Since then, these buses still have various issues until they were retired with 2 of then being fire destroy.

Between The Orion VI and VII, these are the worst buses in the fleet as well by Orion

MiWay has the 3rd largest fleet of 60' articulated buses in Ontario after Ottawa OC Transit and TTC. It is also the only city to have articulate since 1974 continuous

MiWay is now replacing their buses every 12-15 years compare to the 18-20 years time line as it is cheaper to do so. Also, the Government of Ontario calls for it if they are paying a portion of the cost.

When the Orion V 9700's series were retired (2011), NFI will be use 90% for all 40 foot and 60 foot buses. The 30 foot buses are by ElDorado.

MiWay only need 30 foot buses for 40% of their routes since ridership is very low, more friendly to local side streets and doesn't give that empty look compare to 40'.

Word is that the 9800's buses will be retire in 2009 and replace with 24 30DLF, not the 40 currently in the fleet.

On December 1st, 2011, the fleet became 100% lowfloor when 9728 made its final run on route 53 and with 1106 replacing it. 1106 took staff, media and public on a run around Sq One Mall before entering service.

The ElDorado and the Orion II's were used as the test bed for the Presto Fare card since they service the GO Station as GO Shuttle buses for peak time service. The testing was completed in September 2008 and MT is waiting for the full roll out of the system in late 2010.

In 2010, the city decided to change the system name and clours by calling it miWay Transit with orange being used for local and blue for express as new ones arrived. The existing fleet will remain white until they retired around 2023.

Below is the current fleet.

The numbers do not add up to what the system is supposed to have as the numbers are lower for operation because buses have been retire to engine fires, accidents or other problems.

MT is supposed to be receiving 15 additional buses for expansion yearly on top of the replacement schedule for each year, but has been deferred the last few years due to budget issues.

Current fleet comprise of 45 60DLF-R, 24 30DLF and 401 40DLF-R as of 2015

All buses have GPS with external speakers, interior time, automated stop announcement and bike racks.

Starting January 01, 2016, only cash fare and Presto Cards will be used for fare media.
